Cape Tupkaragan

The cape is located on the northwestern tip of the peninsula of the same name. Cape Tupkaragan is a unique historical monument, a conglomerate of cultures, a place where the memory of the ancestors who inhabited it is kept. The chronicles of medieval Arab scholars of the 8th and 12th centuries say that it was here that Western Kazakhstan was located, an ancient city that served as a fortress for shipping in the East Caspian Sea. This place is very attractive to historians and archaeologists, as it holds the secrets and remains of an ancient settlement. It is a well of time, a conglomerate of cultures. Armenians, Ukrainians, Poles, Kazakhs, Turkmens, Germans come to Tupkaragan with such respect to the holy places that keep the memory of their ancestors who once inhabited Cape Tupkaragan. The great explorer Alexander Bekovich-Cherkassky considered Cape Karagan the most favorable place to establish the first fortress on the Eastern Caspian Sea. It was here, two years after the invention of radio, that a radio station was first installed in Kazakhstan and Central Asia in 1909. The westernmost point of the cape is crowned by a rock, depicted in a painting by Taras Shevchenko. Since ancient times, the cape has been the main landmark for seafarers in the Caspian Sea.
